Timber Frame Extension, Sawbridgeworth,

HAL were commissioned to design a timber-frame extension for this charming riverside cottage on the banks of the River Stort in Sawbridgeworth.

The extension creates a larger, more functional kitchen at ground floor level, with a feature staircase leading up to a bright mezzanine space. The mezzanine is illuminated by rooflights, a dormer window, and a fully glazed gable end, making it a standout feature of the home.

Constructed on piled foundations and finished in striking black boarding, the extension offers a contemporary contrast to the character of the original cottage while remaining sympathetic to its setting.

The client told us,

'"Pam is very easy to work with. Her knowledge and expertise proved invaluable in resolving problems with the original design and the end result regularly draws favourable comments from people walking past my house. Very happy customer." — Mr. Goodwin
