Single storey rear infill extension, Stotfold, Stotfold

This extension is located on Fairfield Park in Stotfold, within an Article 4 Direction area where Class A permitted development rights have been removed.

Planning permission was sought to replace a small conservatory with a slightly larger rear extension, filling the gap between two flank walls. Because of the height of the upper-floor windows, a low-pitch roof was required. The planning department preferred a traditional slate finish, however this is usually laid at a steeper pitch. We were able to solve this problem by using a Redland Cambrian Slate, designed specifically for shallow-pitch roofs.

Although modest in size, the extension has made a significant difference to the internal space and sits comfortably in keeping with the surrounding area.
