Separation of a Grade 2 listed building, Digswell,

Maran Cottage is a Grade II listed property dating back to the 16th century, set within riverside gardens in the heart of Digswell. Originally built as three separate cottages, the building was refurbished and combined into a single home during the 1900s. In the 1980s, a new wing—known as Maran House—was added, carefully retaining the original Elizabethan façades. HAL was appointed to secure planning and listed building consent to separate the newer wing from the original cottage, creating two independent dwellings through the removal of the connecting gallery. Pre-application advice was sought from the local authority prior to the submission, which was subsequently approved.

HAL also prepared detailed drawings and a method statement to discharge the planning conditions and was appointed to produce the building regulations drawings in collaboration with the structural engineer.
