Conversion of the Old Police Station, Royston conservation area,

The buildings, known collectively as ‘The old police station’ are located in the heart of Royston town centre and conservation area. Although not listed, they have been identified as being of local and historical interest.

The residential conversion provides: two flats, one maisonette and a four bedroom family house. Of particular interest are the retained cells and courtroom in the 4 bedroom family home. A new mezzanine level installed in the old court room, thus maximising the double height space available.

HAL successfully negotiated a relaxation to Part L building regulations in key areas of the building in terms of retaining the unique character of the building. Strict planning conditions meant that high standards of acoustic separation be provided between the dwellings and the building had to be mechanically ventilated to minimise disturbance from external noise.

'Our project was far from straightforward and involved the refurbishment of three old victorian buildings into both detached houses and flats. The service, professionalism and advice we received throughout the project from Hal was first class while at the same time friendly. I would recommend Hal to anyone from small/self builder to large developer.' Mr John Hanson, Royston.
